Sankofa Acoustics - 2024
As a featured musician for the Sankofa Acoustics Music Series with Kimberly Jones, I helped create an interactive, intergenerational musical experience blending traditional African drumming, saxophone, storytelling, and improvisation. Through the conversation between drum and horn, we created a space where audiences could experience rhythm as both cultural memory and living expression. Sankofa Acoustics celebrates the power of music to bridge generations—honoring traditions of the past while creating new sounds that invite connection, participation, joy, and collective remembrance.
Sol Salvation Choir - 2025
As a featured drummer with the Sol Salvation Choir & Band, I contributed rhythm to a powerful large-scale ensemble rooted in the heart of North Minneapolis. Bringing together choir, live instrumentation, and collective energy, our performances celebrated the power of music to create connection and shared experience. Through African and Diasporic rhythms, I helped ground the ensemble’s sound in a deeper cultural pulse—using the drum to support the voices, strengthen the musical experience, and contribute to a celebration of community, culture, and collective spirit.
Joe Davis Ancestors Rising - 2025
As a featured drummer in Ancestors Rising, I helped bring this powerful theatrical production to life through the ancestral voice of traditional African drums. Using rhythm to support the movement, storytelling, and emotional landscape of the production, the drum became more than accompaniment—it became a voice connecting memory, ancestry, community, and Black cultural remembrance. Through this collaboration, I used African rhythm as a storytelling language, helping audiences feel the presence of the past while reflecting on how ancestral memory continues to move through us today.
Black Storyellers Festival - Featured Teller 2021 - 2022
In 2021 and 2022, I was honored to serve as a featured teller in the Black Storytellers Alliance’s annual festival, carrying forward a tradition deeply rooted in my family and community. Through oral storytelling, rhythm, and poetry, I shared stories grounded in African and African American experiences. These appearances represented more than performance—they were opportunities to carry memory forward, honor those who came before me, and add my voice to a living tradition of Black storytelling passed from generation to generation.
Seeding Kinship on Madeline Island - 2026
At the Seeding Kinship Festival on Madeline Island, I facilitated an interactive African and Diasporic drumming experience centered on rhythm, culture, and collective connection. Within an intercultural gathering, I introduced participants to traditional rhythms while sharing the stories and communal values carried within the drum. The experience invited people from different backgrounds to listen, respond, and find a common pulse—demonstrating how rhythm can become a shared language and a powerful tool for connection, cultural exchange, remembrance, and kinship.
We Win Drum Teacher
Since 2022, I have served as an African drumming instructor with WE WIN Institute, introducing elementary and middle school youth to the foundations and cultural significance of African and Diasporic drumming. Through traditional rhythms, storytelling, and ensemble playing, students develop confidence, discipline, cultural pride, and an understanding of collective responsibility. My continued work with WE WIN represents a commitment to passing cultural knowledge forward—creating spaces where young people can discover their own rhythm, connect with their heritage, and experience the power of making music together.
